Santorini: the island with the magic sunsets

It is a worldwide known island for its unique volcano and the magic sunsets.  Santorini has often been connected with the lost city of  Atlantis.

The wild beauty, the bewitching Kaldera, the nicest sunset in the whole world, pure white houses, impressive hotels, unlimited breath-taking view, special beaches with crystal-clear waters, all this structures the island.

Thousands of couples from all over the world choose the island on their honey-moons, to get married or to spend a romantic weekend. It is the ideal destination for the youngsters with an intense night life and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. It is found in the Aegean Sea and it also belongs to Kyklades.

It is worth visiting:
√ Fira, the capital of the island. One of the most beautiful settlements in Greece, built on a rock approximately 250 m. above the sea, on the edge of Kaldera. Fira, together with its continuing part, Firostefani, is the “focal point” of daily life, the centre of the island’s market and of course, the night entertainment. Hotels, dimly-lit restaurants, a dozen of clubs, bars, jewelry stores, shops for every taste, are all found in Fira. The afternoon is the ideal time to walk into the narrow stone-paved streets and the cosy little corners of the place.
√ Imerovigli,  the highest point of Kaldera with a magnificent view to the volcano, endless blue and a romantic sunset. Here, one can come in view of the most luxurious hotels and villas with Olympic-sized pools at the edge of the cliff, restaurants and small shops.

Oia with splendid sunsets.  A marvellous traditional place, with majestic “captain houses”, houses made within the volcanic rocks, either in their entirety or with added building parts, churches, the castle of Aghios Nikolaos, gourmet restaurants and traditional taverns.
√ The Settlement of Ancient Thira.
The Tower with more than 40 churches and the traditional village “Santorini that is gone”.
Karterados with a traditional mill and the church of Analipsis.
The museums of the island: the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Prehistoric Thira, the Folklore Museum, the Nautical Museum, the Wine Museum and the Bellonio Cultural Centre.
 The Monastery of Profitis Helias.
Panaghia Episkopi: A Byzantine church of the 11th.
The wine factories, most of them offer tour guided programmes, plus a tasty try.
The picturesque villages of the island: Emporio, Ammoudi, Finikia, Perissa, Perivolos, Megalochori, Kamari, Messaria and Monolithos.
√ The Volcano; taking the boat to the two small islands, which represent the most recent action of the volcano, to Nea Kameni you will be able to walk to the crater of the volcano and to Old Kameni with the Thermal Springs.
The small island of Thirassia next to Santorini.

Beaches:
Santorini possesses beaches you will find nowhere else in Greece! They are different due to the volcanic feature, they also possess wild and out-of-the ordinary beauty. Beaches with colourful pebbles or the black, white or red sand will just leave you speechless!

Try:
The famous island’s dish “fava”.
The legendary Santorinian small tomato.
The latter in soft tomato balls.
The special wines. Ask for a glass of Vinsanto – this sweet diamond of the Santorinian vineyard – or accompany your dish with some renowned Santorinian wines: Asyrtiko, Athiri, Aidani, Mantilaria, Mavrotragano.
